Stretch Sensor - Nylon Spandex Fabric

What does the sensor do?

It can be used as a stretch sensor that senses small or medium enlongation deformations (1.5x). The more the band stretches, the greater its resistance would be.

How it works?

Stretch deformation in fabrics within their natural elasticity range (non-forceful stretch) can lead to elongation in fabric structures and less contact area between yarns, which will cause resistance increase.

You will need:

• carbon black ink and polyurethane
• nylon spandex fabric
• conductive silver fabric

Sensor structure & Fabrication steps

• Laser cut out desired length of the elastic band.
• Dip-coat the elastic band with carbon black ink and then polyurethane.
• Connect with silver fabric segments.

Application scenarios

It can be used in scenarios where normal stretch sensing is required (e.g. the bend of joints).
