Bend - Elastic Bandage

What does the sensor do?

Transform bending of elastic bandages into electric signals: bend and the resistance will increase.

How it works?

Stretch deformation in fabrics within their natural elasticity range (non-forceful stretch) can lead to elongation in fabric structures and less contact area between yarns, which will cause resistance increase.

You will need:

• carbon black ink and polyurethane
• elastic bandage
• conductive silver fabric

Sensor structure & Fabrication steps

• Brush-coat the bandage with carbon black ink and then polyurethane in areas where bend sensing is needed.
• Iron silver fabric segments onto the bandage.

Application scenarios

It can be used in rapid bend sensing fabric input protptypes. Notice that certain adhesive bandages might cannot withstand too many washing cycles (they might gradually loose adhesiveness).
